As covid-19 takes a firm grip all over India, the central and state government are working in overdrive to try and curb the spread.
Due to outbreak of the novel coronavirus, majorly travelling is being discouraged, flights being cancelled left, right and centre, and self-quarantine for the period of 14 days has been advised by health officials.
So switch on your streaming services, put on your pyjamas, get that bowl of popcorn (and you can actually afford these as opposed to that tub at the theatre) play these movies and binge!
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Netflix
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is probably one of the first films that fed the idea of foreign road-trips and travel to the millennial brains in India. The lazy road trips, deep-sea diving, the Tomatina festival and the liberating sky-fall turned this film into a novel experience for Indian movie-goers. So, why not begin your virutal travel with this?
Queen – Netflix
If you are a woman and solo travel intimidates you, then this film is a must watch for you. Bonus: the film also comes with oodles of life lessons and anecdotes on realising your own self-worth. A perfect binge for quarantine days!
Dil Dhadakne Do – Netflix
This Zoya Akhtar film is a perfect watch if you are quarantined at home with your family. Starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor, the film is set on a cruise which travels through Turkey, Spain and Tunisia. Now you can’t get on a cruise these days. The best way to be on one is to see others on one.
Tamasha – Netflix
This Imtiaz Ali film has become a cult classic years after its release. The film brought to life the beauty of the Mediterranean island of Corsica. It also talked about how travelling can make you wiser and help you open up to strangers. End pasand nahi aaya? Badal do!
Before Sunrise – Netlfix
Richard Linklater turned this minimal and lovely film into pure art. The first instalment of the famous trilogy had Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy flirting and philosophising around the cobblestoned streets of Vienna. This film romanticises the location and makes you fall in love with the place.
Into The Wild – Netflix
This classic is a biographical adventure film, based on the story of Christopher McCandless, who after being frustrated with his family, hiked across North America for self-exploration. The stunning picturisation of this film will leave you delighted.
The Motorcycle Diaries
Based on the road trip that Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado took across Latin America, this film is a true-blue classic. The film narrates Che’s experience on how the trip opened his eyes to political injustice and increasing poverty.
So stay home and, because zindagi, despite its downs, na milegi dobara.
