When popular beaches in India are dotted with tourists everywhere, it makes sense to flee to a place where you will find what you’re actually looking for in a beach holiday – isolation and tranquility.
Unfortunately, not everyone knows where to find these patches of sandy paradise. Here’s a collection of the 5 unexplored beaches to relax under the cool shade of palm trees and, well, do nothing for a change!
Marari Beach, Kerala
The village of Maraikulam lies on a forgotten shore, midway up the Malabar Coast, and unlike other tourist hubs across Kerala the beach is a peaceful place to relax and unwind.
Do nothing on the beach, take long walks or bicycle rides and stroll down to the village and explore on your own. Also if you’re visiting in August, you can check out the Snake Boat Races.
Tranquebar beach, Tamil Nadu
Tranquebar, also known as ‘The land of the singing waves’ is located on the Coromandel Coast, 290 kilometres from Chennai.
The pristine beach of Tranquebar is said to have the second richest ozone content in the world that does wonders to the tired urban body. Uppanar River, close to the beach, is a birdwatcher’s paradise!
Mandvi Beach, Gujarat
Mandvi is a private beach, located 50 kms from Bhuj and is a part of the private estate of the Maharaos (rulers of Kutch).
The beach is a curving stretch of white sand fringed by blue waters, with windmills on one side and sunset pavilion on the other. Camel and Horse rides on the dunes of the beach are also arranged for.
Ramchandi beach, Orissa
Located just 7 Km from the heritage site Konark, Orissa, Ramchandi beach is a scenic, isolated and unspoilt beach located on the confluence of the Kusabhadra River and the Bay of Bengal.
The beach is popular for activities like sailing, swimming and sun-bathing and surfing activities have also begun just recently!
Kannur, Kerala
Nicknamed as the ‘Crown of Kerala’, Kannur is lovely beach destination, tucked away from concrete dens, 90 kms north of Calicut and 120 kms away from Mangalore.
The virgin and clean beaches at Payyambalam, Meenkunnu and Kizhunna are a tourist’s paradise. One could lose oneself riding into the sunset at Kerala’s only drive-in beach at Muzhippilangadi.
