Christmas is one of the most popular and the most awaited upcoming festival in India which is celebrated on 25th December of the Gregorian calendar. Majorly celebrated in all Christian countries, the festival is a symbol of religious and cultural celebration among billions of people all across the globe. Predominantly, the annual festival commemorates the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe is the “Son of God”. Although being a Christian festival, people from different communities also celebrate this special day with great fervour and enthusiasm. In India it is also known as “Big Day” or the “Bada Din”, as per Hindu mythology this is the shortest day of the year and after this day the duration of the day starts to increase and the night duration decreases.

Christmas holds great importance for elders and children and is also known for the beautiful and pleasant gifts from the Santa Clause. Everyone, regardless of their religion, looks forward to this auspicious day. On this day houses are deep cleaned, all the churches and the Christmas trees are decorated with beautiful lights and candles, surrounded by various gifts and presents to celebrate the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.

The celebrations begin on the eve of Christmas and the preparation includes lots of shopping, decoration of Christmas tree, gifts, lightning, delicious food, drinks and a lot more. These days, modern customs include the exchange of cards, gifts and presents for children in family and friends. Moreover, some families prefer to shop for matching outfits for everyone in the family and friends. Traditionally it is believed have a sumptuous turkey in the meal across the world on this day.
