Staying comfortable on a long-haul flight can seem like a rather tricky prospect these days, but there are ways to get you skipping off your flight at the other end. We call it our Five Steps to Happy Travelling.
1. Stay hydrated
Airplane cabins are notoriously dry environments so staying hydrated is the number one way to avoid jet-lag and to travel comfortably. Take an empty bottle of water onto the airplane with you and ask the inflight staff to fill it with water for you.
2. Wear comfortable clothing
Wearing breathable and stretchy clothing will make a huge difference to how comfortable you are in your seat. Try carrying a few layers with you and that way you can take a few off if it gets too warm or vice versa.
3. Stay warm
Take a light-weight travel blanket or ask for one when you board. On-board air-conditioning can get mighty cold when you’re not on the move. Try blanket for a light-weight solution you’ll use over and over again.
4. Reduce light and noise
It’s never easy sleeping in a seated position, but investing in a good eye mask and a pair of ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones will ensure you can enjoy some quality shut-eye. For the perfect sleep, elevate your feet with a blow-up foot rest and support your head and neck with a well-designed travel pillow.
5. Move
Our bodies are designed to stay active. Get out of your seat every hour or so to stretch and do a lap or two of the aisle. Not only will you reduce your risk of deep-vein thrombosis, you’ll also feel more comfortable when you are in your seat.
Travelling is a great experience for everyone to undertake. However, it’s essential to be prepared for any eventuality you might encounter.
